Programme Details

DISCOVERING RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY

 

This year-long stream examines the history, development and contemporary practices of the world's main belief traditions. Each term will focus on a different group of traditions. 

 

TERM 1 2019

 

History and Development

of the Western

Belief  Traditions

 

In 8 weekly lectures, this series begins with a discussion on the evolutionary history of religion, religious behaviour, polytheism and the rise of monotheism, and then focuses on the history & development of the Western traditions of Zoroastriaism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Note:

Term 2: History and Development of Eastern Traditions  

Term 3 & 4: Contemporary Beliefs and Practices.

 

A detailed syllabus will be provided in the first class.

CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN RELIGION

This stream focuses on special topics and will address different issues each Term.

TERM 1 2019

Religious Fundamentalism,

Extremism and Terrorism

 

In 8 weekly lectures, this series will cover a detailed study of the history, context & contemporary issues around religious fundamentalism, extremism and terrorism in each of the world's main faith and belief traditions, and will view in detail, Jewish, Christian, Muslim,Hindu,Buddhist and Sikh fundamentalism and extremism.
